21-09-2015September 17: High Tree Event

Our anniversary celebrations are over now and we look back on three fantastic days!
Thursday, September 17th, we welcomed 400 customers and other guests for helicopter rides, bus tours and demonstrations. Armed with umbrellas we went with oldtimer buses into the nursery for workshops on honey trees and the edible product range. Also the 'Crown Jewels' could be viewed while enjoying a glass of prosecco. 250 of our guests made a flight with a helicopter to look at the fields from above.

Later in the afternoon, everybody came back into the hall and enjoyed a lecture by Wim Daniëls. Wim had prepared us a beautiful story about birches and other trees and in spite of 75 years of experience with trees he has increased our knowledge!

After that the microphone was for Daan Roosegaarde with a lecture on interactive landscapes. Most of our guests are daily occupied with landscaping so this theme resonated with their interest. In addition, Daan is one of the most influential green innovators of the moment and he has designed a wide range of inspiring, innovative projects. We are proud that he wanted to share his experience and thoughts with us. Daan also found it interesting to be with us because trees are indispensable in a sustainable environment. Our tree book also went home with him.

To finalize the afternoon there was every opportunity to talk to each other, accompanied by a drinks, snacks and dinner. Maison van den Boer provided excellent catering and the ‘Lords of the good life’ a pleasant musical atmosphere. We look back on a wonderful day, even though we had some rain in the afternoon. Our guests however didn’t let themselves be put off and went into the fields! Thank you to all the genuine interest, the congratulations, the gifts and enthusiastic responses.

21-09-201575 year old ball of birch wood

On the occasion of our 75th anniversary Sonja Kreutzer of SoniWood gives a beautiful wooden ball made of birch to Pieter van den Berk. She choose this one as a present because the wood is also about 75 years old and birch means Berk in Dutch, what is our company/family name. A very nice gesture of her and we were very happy to meet her again on our High Tree Event. Sonja is a former colleague and is now working as a wood artist.

09-02-201575 years of Van den Berk

This year, we are celebrating our 75-year anniversary. Obviously, we are proud of this because ours is a flourishing family business which has enjoyed remarkable growth over the decades. With around 500 hectares of land, more than 100 expert employees and a product range encompassing 1750 species and cultivars, we have grown into one of the most significant European nurseries in our business sector. By continuing our recent investment in plant material, technical innovations, skills and marketing, we are able to look forward in expectation to what the coming years have in store, in spite of tough market circumstances in large areas of Europe.
Every jubilee should of course be celebrated, so we are putting on various events throughout the year. We will keep you posted.

09-02-2015New Tree Book

We are proud to announce that we are starting our Jubilee year with the launch of the Second Edition of our book, ‘Van Den Berk on Trees’. When the First Edition of the book appeared in 2002, it was an immediate hit and is still a major reference work for anyone involved in public space planning.
The new edition describes 1101 species that can be found in Europe. It now includes an additional 383 species and cultivars and each description is accompanied by a beautiful photograph. Once again, the book is available in Dutch, English, German and French. We have also included guidelines for organising planting sites and for unloading and planting large trees.
The Second Edition is available from our webshop for the Jubilee price of € 75.00 until 31 March, after which it will cost €95.00.
